Morocco and Nigeria Sign Bilateral Agreements on Pipeline and Fertilizer


A Nigerian delegation led by led by the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Godfrey Onyeama, while in Morocco signed two bilateral agreements strengthening ties between the two countries.

The first agreement was the Joint Initiative on the Morocco–Nigeria Gas Regional Pipeline. The MoU, which was signed by NNPC and ONHYM, was to determine the modalities of undertaking a feasibility study and a FEED study relating to a gas pipeline from Nigeria to Morocco.

The MoU also set out a timeline, specified equal partnership in governance, management, and financing for the project. The timeline for both studies is two years from the date of signing.

The second bilatéral agreement was on the second phase of the Fertilizer Initiative. Under the first phase Morocco supplied a cargo of phosphate to Nigeria after eight weeks of the signing.
